TDP suspends five leaders

The Telugu Desam on Saturday suspended five party leaders of Anantapur district for backing some independents and not the CPI candidate in the Dharmavaram Assembly constituency.

M.A. Sharif, TDP general secretary, said in a statement that S. Phani Kumar, Dharmavaram town unit president, Srinivasulu, Dharmavaram rural mandal chief, G. Narayana Reddy, M. Kesava Reddy and Ramesh Babu, heads of the mandal party units of Bathalapalli, Taddamaddi and Mudigubba respectively were suspended following orders issued by the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu. He said the leaders’ action would indirectly benefit the Congress party and affect the winning chances of the CPI nominee. According to the statement, the Dharmavaram seat has been allotted to the CPI following an understanding among the Grand Alliance partners. Meanwhile, the party has asked V. Hanumanthraya Chowdary , Anantapur district president, to work for the success of CPI nominee.
