BJP nominees reach out to voters

Tarnaka X roads came alive on Wednesday morning with bikes, orange flags and blaring loudspeakers. Much to the chagrin of road users, a 300 plus crowd of BJP supporters gathered at the busy junction in support of a veteran and a fresh face.

Bandaru Dattatreya, the BJP’s candidate for Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, and S. Ramesh Chakra, Secunderabad Assembly candidate, were reaching out to voters in Tarnaka, Lalaguda and Addagutta. As their open-top jeep wended its way through the narrow ‘gallis’ of Vijayapuri Colony, curious residents came out to see them, while others were irritated with the traffic jam.

For debutant 26-year-old Ramesh Chakra, a member of the ABVP in college, it was the influence of ‘Rashtriyatha’ and discipline that was instilled in him in those days that brought him into the political arena.

With the guy-next-door look, Ramesh hopes to cash in on his age and educational qualification. “This youngster has done his MBA and he is here to serve you. Elect him,” said Mr. Dattatreya, even as he appealed to people, asking them to vote for him too.

As they covered areas like Chandrababu Naidu Nagar and Addagutta, Mr. Dattatreya pointed to the bad roads and asked them to elect their party.
